Privacy Policy

Last updated: [REPLACE WITH DATE]

This policy explains what data the Out of the Woods mobile app (the "App") collects, why, and how we use it.

Who we are

Out of the Woods is built and operated by [REPLACE WITH PUBLISHER NAME] (the "Developer", "we", "us"). You can contact us at [REPLACE WITH CONTACT EMAIL].

What we collect

Gameplay state (on your device only)

Level progress, star counts, candle balance, purchased entitlements, and settings (audio volumes, etc.) are stored on your device using AsyncStorage. This data never leaves the device and we cannot read it.

Analytics (Firebase Analytics)

We use Firebase Analytics to understand how players engage with the App. This collects:

We do not collect your name, email, phone number, address, or precise location.

Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)

When the App crashes or encounters an unexpected error, we use Firebase Crashlytics to record a stack trace, device model, OS version, and the Firebase pseudonymous identifier described above. This helps us fix bugs. Crash reports are automatically deleted after 90 days.

Ads (Google AdMob)

The App shows optional rewarded-video ads (to earn in-game hints) and interstitial ads between puzzles. Ads are served by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect your advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS / AAID on Android), IP address, and ad interaction data to serve and measure ads. See Google's Privacy Policy for details.

On iOS, the App will ask permission via Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt before any tracking identifier is shared with AdMob. You can decline; the App will still work and still show ads (non-personalized).

In the EU, UK, and other regions where GDPR applies, the App shows a Google-provided consent form the first time it launches. You can change your choices later from the Settings screen.

In-app purchases

Candle packs and the "Lantern Keeper" unlock are processed by Apple's App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android). Payment information is handled entirely by those platforms; we never see your card, Apple ID, or Google account details. After a purchase completes, the App sends the store-issued transaction ID to our server to verify the purchase is genuine before granting the in-game reward. We store the transaction ID alongside the associated SKU and verification timestamp.

Remote configuration

We use Firebase Remote Config to tune gameplay parameters (ad frequency, daily caps) without shipping a new version. Remote Config collects the same anonymous device metadata described under Analytics.

What we do with it

We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with parties other than the service providers listed above.

Children

The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the App, please contact us and we will delete any associated data.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete data we hold about you, or to opt out of certain processing. To exercise these rights, email [REPLACE WITH CONTACT EMAIL].

You can reset the advertising identifier in your device's settings at any time. Uninstalling the App removes all local gameplay state.

Changes

We'll update this policy as the App changes. Material changes will be highlighted in the App's settings screen the next time you open it.
